20 MWac Transaction Marks Third Collaboration to Deploy Local Energy Infrastructure

Dogwood Lane, a 4.4 MWdc solar project in Kenbridge, VA, developed through
Apex and Summit Ridge Energy’s 2023 collaboration
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA [December 4, 2025] – Apex Clean Energy and Summit Ridge Energy today announced the sale of four distributed solar projects totaling 20 MWac. The portfolio—comprising Bandyville, Rooks Creek, Swamp Fox, and Cherry Grove—reflects increasing demand for locally sited energy infrastructure that can be deployed efficiently to support grid reliability and meet rising electricity needs driven by data centers, manufacturing reshoring, and industrial growth.
This transaction is the latest in a series between Apex and Summit Ridge. Earlier this year, the companies closed on the 5 MWac Bowie Road project in Virginia under the state’s Shared Solar Program, which will serve low- and moderate-income residential customers in Dominion territory. Together, these 2025 transactions build on the companies’ November 2023 collaboration, when Apex sold a 19 MWac portfolio of Virginia shared solar projects to Summit Ridge.
“Our continued partnership with Summit Ridge reflects a shared commitment to deploying reliable, cost-effective power solutions at a critical moment in time,” said Charlie Johnson, Apex head of distributed energy resources. “These projects represent ready-to-build American energy infrastructure that will help meet Illinois’s growing electricity demand while delivering meaningful economic benefits to local communities.”
“Summit Ridge’s partnership with Apex keeps getting stronger because we’re both committed to doing great work and investing in the communities we serve,” said Garren Bisschoff, SVP of Business Development at Summit Ridge Energy. “These projects will deliver reliable power, create new revenue for local communities, and generate long-term value across Illinois.”
The transaction advances Illinois’s energy infrastructure while delivering economic benefits to local communities through property tax revenue, landowner payments, and construction employment. The four projects, which span both Ameren and ComEd territories, are slated to begin commercial operations by the end of 2026.
Apex maintains a distributed energy development portfolio of nearly 800 MWac spanning 12 states across the country, with this portfolio representing the company’s first distributed energy commercialization in Illinois.
