The Virginia Clean Economy Act aims to convert Virginia’s electric grid to 100% clean energy by 2050. Pairing that local legislation with the federal Inflation Reduction Act is allowing Summit Ridge Energy to invest in the Commonwealth and move the state closer to reaching decarbonization goals while moving the economy forward.
In November 2023, Summit Ridge Energy announced the acquisition of 19 community solar projects across 16 counties in Virginia. These projects represent a $250 million investment that will provide more than 1,000 jobs to the state, lower energy bills and advance the Virginia Clean Economy Act. The acquisition also solidified Summit Ridge’s position as the number one commercial developer of solar energy in Virginia.
Garren Bisschoff, Senior Vice President of Business Development at Summit Ridge, was interviewed on the Solar Maverick Podcast to discuss the company’s recent Virginia acquisition and magnificent growth, as well as his career in solar.
Garren shared that the secret to becoming a solar energy market leader is Summit Ridge’s culture of execution: hard work, market research and analysis, due diligence, and a focus on quality projects over quantity of projects. Commitment to those values has enabled Summit Ridge to get “projects built on time and on budget.”
“We are very much a process and efficiency driven organization,” said Garren, who’s come a long way since designing and developing solar solutions in Johannesburg, South Africa. “The hard work we put in pays off.”
Bisschoff continued, “So as we managed to grow, we’ve managed to bring in experts in nuanced roles, which has really helped us sharpen our pencil. But [its] also allowed us to scale and allows us to double our growth every year.”
