Powering LaSalle County with Scale and Precision

The Briscoe 2A solar project initiative is one of Summit Ridge’s first self-developed projects in Illinois. Dating back to late 2017, it is part of the three sites originally secured with the same landowner (two of which now host community solar projects). Spanning over 12 acres (about half the area of Chicago’s Millennium Park), it sets a precedent for solar energy and showcases the immense economic benefits it brings to LaSalle County and beyond.
At the core of this solar venture is a setup comprising over 7,000 PV modules, all supported by a cutting-edge single-axis tracking system. This technology allows the panels to track the sun, maximizing energy absorption, with an operational capacity of 2.9 MWdc and 1,500+ kWh per year.

Local Impact, National Value
For LaSalle, the impact is clear. The project – which became energized in late 2021 – supports 166 housing units within ComEd’s utility grid, ensuring residents have access to cost-effective, domestically generated power through Ampion’s community solar offtake program. Beyond lowering bills, this project contributes to the region’s economic vitality by creating construction jobs, generating tax revenue, and providing a long-term investment in the community’s future.
Briscoe 2A also exemplifies how Summit Ridge Energy uses market-driven innovation to deliver private-sector solutions that enhance grid reliability, reduce dependence on foreign energy, and expand opportunities for local landowners and businesses. By prioritizing U.S.-based supply chains and American-made components, projects like Briscoe 2A also strengthen the nation’s economic security.
This solar development is more than steel, glass, and wires. It is a model for how distributed solar can serve as critical energy infrastructure. By pairing ReCon’s advanced engineering with Foss & Co. and HASI’s private capital, Briscoe 2A demonstrates how locally produced energy can provide resilience, stability, and lasting value to both communities and the nation.
