A Day to Remember in Virginia: Celebrating Scenic Farms and the Power of Partnership

Morning Momentum: Collaboration and Community Engagement

On May 15, the Summit Ridge team gathered in Elkton, Virginia, for a special day that brought together community leaders, project partners, and employees to celebrate a major milestone: the launch of our Scenic Farms solar site.

The morning kicked off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on-site at Scenic Farms, our 4.1-megawatt installation in Rockingham County, and the latest addition to our growing portfolio in the Commonwealth. With this site now energized, Summit Ridge’s footprint in Virginia reaches 100 megawatts, positioning us as the largest developer in the state with nearly half of all capacity in the Virginia Shared Solar Program.

We were honored to be joined by House Majority Leader Charniele Herring and Delegate Amy Laufer. They were joined by Summit Ridge leadership, investors MUFG and Osaka Gas, local officials, and community partners. The energy on-site reflected the scale of the achievement and the momentum behind shared solar across the state.

Building a Legacy, Locally

With over 6.5 million kilowatt-hours projected annually from this site alone, Scenic Farms will provide energy savings to over 600 households. Once fully operational, the broader portfolio of 25 solar sites is expected to power nearly 16,000 subscribers. “As a company headquartered in Virginia, we’re especially proud that these projects are creating a direct impact right in our own backyard; Scenic Farms is a great example of what that looks like,” said Garren Bisschoff, Senior Vice President of Business Development at Summit Ridge […] Through our investments and Virginia’s Shared Solar Program, we’ve also created more than 1,000 jobs for contractors, suppliers, and local businesses.”

Landowner Leroy Heatwole spoke about the significance of continuing to use the land in a way that benefits the local community. “We’re proud to be still raising poultry and growing wheat here,” he said, “while supporting the local education system and contributing to energy savings and economic growth.”

“This solar facility is more than an energy project.  It’s a symbol of what’s possible when people come together to think differently about powering our future,” said Leslie Elder, Vice President of Policy & Regulatory Affairs at Summit Ridge. “With every household that saves money, every job this supports, and every kilowatt hour added to the grid—we’re not just delivering electricity, we’re delivering opportunity, independence, and long-term impact.”
